Romans 14:19

“Pursue the things which make for peace and building up of one another”

Jerry Brackney Elder

My faith walk started as a pre-teen when my parents started attending the Methodist Church. I went to Bible school and was involved in the teen group. While in the service, I was stationed in Texas and my roommate invited me to go to the Church of Christ. I did, and I was impressed with the teaching coming right from the Bible. Within months, I became a new testament Christian through confession and baptism into Christ.

Rita, my wife, and I have been a part of the Lapeer Church of Christ since 1972. I have been one of the original Elders since 1987. I have been blessed to see the growth of the congregation from 20 plus to its’ present size. The congregation has enjoyed stability with only having four fulltime pulpit ministers during the past 36 years.

Our congregation is not perfect because we are sinners saved by God’s grace. We have a heart to spread God’s Word and serve others. It is our desire to follow His Word as closely as we can and understand in faith, worship, and practice.

Rita and I have been married 45 years on June 2008 and have raised four sons while worshipping at Lapeer. David is a professor at Rochester College in Rochester, MI. John is deceased, Mark is the minister at the Arlington church of Christ in Knoxville, TN and Philip is the Youth Minister at the Trenton church of Christ in Trenton, MI. They have blessed us with 13 grandchildren. Rita and I believe the strength of the family, church, and nation is dependent upon the Christ like relationship of the husband and wife and the raising of Godly children. To this end, our passion is teaching marriage and parenting classes.

We are blessed to be a part of this friendly, loving, serving congregation of the Lord’s followers.

My family has been part of the Lapeer Church of Christ since 1986. I have been one of the original Elders since 1987. This congregation is diverse in so many ways, there are all ages, some have been in the Church since infants, others have come from many different religious bodies, and some are recent converts. All are seeking God’s will and direction. I grew up in the church of the Nazarene and my wife attended the Baptist Church.

I teach adult classes and the students share their life experiences openly. There is a feeling of love among these people that touches so many lives. I’m very proud of the servant attitude displayed by the many service projects, both local and nationally that our members are involved with.

Our preaching is Bible based and easy to understand and apply to our daily lives. The focus is on the family unit, learning to raise sound Christian children, to honor marriage and respect others. As we come together, there is an edifying effect of our brothers and sisters loving and concern for each individual. My family is blessed to be part of this special loving congregation.

I have lived in the Lapeer area all my life. Even though I had attended church occasionally as a child, I did not start my walk with God until laer on in adulthood. I have been part of the church now for over 40 years. When I decided to become a follower of Christ, I remember that it was easy for me to believe in God and to accept Jesus as his son, but was confused with all the different churches and doctrines. I was pleased with the Church of Christ because they used the Bible as their only doctrine and did not use any name other than Christian. I liked that. Anyone wanting to follow God would agree to use His Word and be called after His Son.

Judy, my wife, and I have been married for over 45 years and have two adult children. Chris, our daughter, lives in Arlington, Texas and our son, Keith, lives in Knoxville, Tennessee. We have five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

If you are looking for a Church home or seeking more knowledge about your walk with God, I would encourage you to join us in our efforts.

In 1993 my work dictated that my family and I move to the Lapeer County area. We visited several Churches of Christ in the surround communities. After visiting the Lapeer congregation we knew we had found our new church home and the community in which we wanted to raise our children.

My wife, Freda and I will be married 30 years in June of 2009. Freda grew up in the Church of Christ but I did not start attending regularly until I was 15 years old. Soon afterwards, I was baptized and became a Christian. I can truly say that being a Christian has been the foundation that has kept our marriage strong for so many years. The Church was also a great blessing in the raising of our three children. It provided activities, friends and adult mentors that helped us to raise them to be a loving, kind God-fearing wife & mother, husband and young adult.

I thank God every day for the opportunity to worship with and serve at the Lapeer church and would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have blessed me and my family with their love and support over the past several years since I have had the honor of being an elder.

If you are looking for a place to worship God, and study from the Bible with other people who are happy to have you with them – welcome home!

Don Jamison Deacon

Our family has been worshiping and serving with the Lapeer church of Christ since the 2000-2001 time frame. At present, I'm serving the church as a deacon with the responsibility of the Bible school program. Let me share with you some personal background information.

My family has always been associated with the churches of Christ. At the age of 15 I gave my life to Christ. My college years were spent in Rochester Michigan (Michigan Christian College) and in Henderson Tennessee (Freed-Hardeman College) where I graduated with a B.A. in Biblical studies.

While attending Freed-Hardeman, I met my wife to be, Tracy, and we were wed in May of 1982. Since then the Lord has blessed our family with three boy's. Following college I worked as a part time youth minister / Bible class teacher in Roseville Michigan.

I have also been employed in the automotive field as a design engineer. I'm currently employed by General Motors. In my entire adult life I have been involved in teaching Bible class. It is my honor to be apart of the Lapeer church of Christ serving in this way.
